Privacy policy

Trollie is in testing. This page says what we collect when you use Trollie on WhatsApp, by email, on the website or in the app, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: support@trollie.ai.
What we collect
- Your phone number, stored encrypted.
- Our chat: the messages you send Trollie and our replies.
- Receipts: the photos you send and the emails you forward, and what we read from them: shop, branch, date, items, prices and totals. Card and ID numbers printed on receipts are masked and not used.
- What you choose to add: an email address, a name, a profile photo, your area, social media handles, a crew.
- App details: if you use the app, a notification token for your phone.
Why
- To keep a record of your spending for you.
- To give you points and rewards for your receipts.
- To compare prices between shops for everyone. Prices from receipts are used without your name or number.
- To check receipts are real, so points stay fair.
- To send you the messages you ask for, such as sign-in codes.
Who sees it
- You. Your receipts and spending are private to you.
- Your crew, if you join one, sees your name and what you've done in the crew. Not your amounts or shops.
- Anyone, only if you turn on a public profile, and only what that profile shows.
- Companies that run parts of Trollie for us: Meta (WhatsApp), Cloudflare (hosting and email), Microsoft Azure (database), Amazon Web Services (sending email), Expo (app notifications), and Anthropic and DeepSeek, whose AI models read receipt photos.
We don't sell your information.
Where it's kept
Outside South Africa. During testing the database is in the United Kingdom. Receipt photos are read in the United States (Anthropic) and, for receipts that need a second check, in China (DeepSeek). You agree to this when you join.
How long
Until you delete it. Emails that aren't clearly receipts wait in your inbox for 30 days; after that their content is removed.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or delete everything at any time (how to delete). Type STOP on WhatsApp to stop messages. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
Age
Trollie is for people 18 or older.
Keeping it safe
Phone numbers are encrypted, connections use HTTPS, and staff sign in with passkeys.
